Info on compact cameras sought (UK)
I use a camera for various things but need to carry it whilst cycling.
I pulled the trusty Finepix FII out the box yesterday to find the screen was gubbed - somehow it must have received a blow since last I used it but I don't know how. I'm assuming it will cost more to repair than the price I paid for it and I could use more zoom in any case so it looks like a new camera for me.
I was never convinced that the colour rendition was what it should have been anyway, I've seen much better from "simpler" cameras.
A bridge type is too bulky for cycling with in my opinion so I want another compact with at least 10x zoom (though could take less if that compromises other facets), dial controls (I always found shuffling through menus frustrating) and, most importantly, a viewfinder. I'm not fixated on pixel numbers. I got the Finepix as it had the reputation (not entirely deserved) of good shutter lag so that's a requirement too.
Can anyone give me a starter for ten before I start searching the net? Any advice and experience would be appreciated.
Hi and welcome.
Need to know your budget first :-D
Well..........until I know what's on the marke that meets my spec, I don't know how big I have to make the budget. I don't want to be spending DSLR levels though.
OK, well, I'm gonna suggest the http://www.photographyblog.com/revie...c_tz30_review/, as it's simply the best. Better than all the rest LOL
Not just because it came top of the WDC Travel Zoom compacts but because my brother has it and I have the previous TZ7 & TZ10... does what it says on the tin! Nowt else to say! Oh yes! The screen can be seen in sunlight, so no need for an inaccurate view finder!
And don't forget. Post processing is an important part of photography and should be used to sharpen and enhance pictures taken with your camera. If you don't have an imaging editor, then use the one in my signature below. There are http://ictpublish.com/pixlr/ to get you started. The most useful is the http://ictpublish.com/pixlr/Videoes/...06_Levels.html and for even more adjustment. The http://ictpublish.com/pixlr/Videoes/...07_Curves.html is a must (it's my favourite all-in-one adjuster). My Resize-Crop-Sharpen tutorial below, will get your pics ready for the internet or whatever

Small, quality compact camera
I to am looking to replace my F200EXR with something newer and more advanced with improved image quality, performance, ease of use etc
Currently there are many options and now a FujiF800EXR that shoots RAW, Sony RX100, Panasonic LX7, Olympus XZ-1, Samsung EX2F,canon S100, Fuji X10.......etc.
Really depends on your budget and what features you consider important, your style of photography and so on.
All I can say is research, research, research and try out as many as you can
Thanks chaps - there's a bit for me to think about there.
