Extra lens support for the NEX system: Sonyu2019s 30mm Macro is the first of four NEX lens releases due this yearu2026

A new Sony 30mm f/3.5 Macro lens (SEL30M35) for the NEX system has been announced in tandem with the unveiling of the NEX-C3 Compact System Camera.

The first of four new NEX lenses to be released this year (other models TBC), the 30mm Macro has a true 1:1 maximum magnification, and can focus just 2.4cms from subject. The 30mm focal length equates to 45mm in full-frame terms, which should also mean it’s ideal for classic street photography and other scenarios.

Constructed of seven elements in six groups, with one ED glass element and three aspherical lens elements for optimum quality, the latest fixed focal length lens should further bolster the NEX’s lens lineup into something that, come the end of this year, will be all the more full and varied.

The lens is also the world’s lightest life size macro lens, weighing in at just 138g. Add this to the world’s smallest and lightest Compact System Camera, the NEX-C3, and true macro photography can be brought to you at a scale and low weight never before seen.

At present there is no news on pricing or exact release date, but we’ll bring more information as and when we have it.
