24x optical zoom Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ48 unveiled

Panasonic has added a new superzoom model to their Lumix range in the shape of the DMC-FZ48. With a 24x optical zoom, 25mm wide angle lens, 3″ LCD screen, Optical Image Stabilization and HD video capabilities the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ48 looks to offer the aspiring photographer something more than the average compact.

Full manual controls are also present in order to alter the likes of shutter speed and aperture, as well as the Intelligent Auto mode that appears on other Lumix fixed and removable lens models. With the Venus Engine FHD handling the image processing alongside Intelligent Resolution and Intelligent Zoom magnification can be boosted past the 24x onto 32x.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ48 also offers a single lens 3D mode, which takes 20 images at different focal lengths in order to create a three dimensional end product. Alongside the impressive 1080p HD video mode, which uses the AVCHD codec, the Lumix FZ48 looks set to be a rival for the likes of Nikon’s Coolpix P500 and the Canon Powershot SX30IS.
