P7000 successor announced

Nikon today announced the new COOLPIX P7100 -the successor to the popular COOLPIX P7000. The update sports a host of new features, including a new tilting 3in LCD screen and, according to Nikon, a host of performance enhancements.

The Nikon P7100 features an advanced specification and is an update that will be welcome to many users. The model features a 10.1MP CCD sensor which measures in 1/1.7in, making it a large size for a compact camera and, Nikon claims, capable of facilitating wide dynamic range and exceptional low light performance. The sensor also supports Raw image capture, and is coupled with Nikon’s EXPEED C2 image processor.

The new COOLPIX P7100 features a 7.1x optical zoom covering an equivalent focal range of 28-200mm in 35mm terms, with two ED glass elements to reduce chromatic aberration. The model also feature the aforementioned new 3in LCD screen which is capable of tilting away from the body for flexible shooting.

The Nikon P7100 offers HD video capture at 720p resolution, whilst it’s also possible to set white balance before recording and use Auto Exposure (AE) lock during filming to set exposure at any time. The COOLPIX P7100 also features a built-in HDMI connector and supports the use of an external microphone.

The Nikon COOLPIX P7100 will be on sale from 22nd September this year, with a recommended retail price of £499.99. For more information on the Nikon P7100, including a full specification, visit the Nikon website.
