I'm going on a trip to US (from UK), and going to be doing a lot of outdoor photography, mostly in the cities (New York, Washington DC, SF, LA, etc) and some landscape photos like Grand Canyon.

Budget is very tight and I just want a camera that can take some good pics and bring back nice memories from the trip. I've read this CNET review (recent): http://reviews.cnet.com/best-compact-cameras/

I thought Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS would be a great choice! Very good price and good reviews, however, I'm not sure how good it is outdoors, and capturing the spirit of, for example, such places as Grand Canyon's sunset/sunrise. Would this be enough for a regular user? Or should I better get a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V, which is about $150 more expensive. My budget is $200-300, but if the difference between them two is like night and day, then I might consider taking Sony instead.

Thanks for any tips people!!
