Not easy lol! But images can be enhanced very easy nowadays. What you shoot is only half the job!
Go with what feels good in the hand. I have sorted out a couple of lenses that will enhance your shooting pleasure.
Lets start with the wide angle Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM. Which will be a 16mm-35.2mm lens Clicky I just love wide angle images and this one covers it all http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod..._f3.5-4.5_USM/
Telephoto - Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. Which will be a 112mm-480mm lens. Ideal for those wildlife must have shots. http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Prod...f4-5.6_IS_USM/
Cheers!

As already said if it feels right then you are a long way down the right road, dont settle for i will get used to it. as for taking better pictures i cannot comment. I do a lot of club work and to be honest there not a lot between any of the makes of DSLR's what does make a difference is the lens and how people process there pictures. in this day and age you can do just about anything with your image.
