like canismajor & wave as said you will not go wrong with a 550D after seeing waves images ive just brought 2 550D's even if your new with using a DSLR you can still use it like a point and shot until you get used to changing a setting and plus there's loads of stuff on the net to help you to understand the settings on youtube to watch
