New CSC Sony NEX-5N, Sony NEX-7 and SLT Sony a77 and a65 models announced

In an exclusive press
event Sony has revealed four new cameras; the 24MP Sony NEX-7, Sony NEX-5N
which updates the NEX-5 with a larger resolution sensor (both of which
reportedly has the least shutter lag of any digital camera) and finally the
Sony a77 and Sony a55 SLT models, the former of which has a world’s fastest
burst rate of 12fps.

Of the four releases
the star of the show is undoubtedly the Sony NEX-7, a CSC model with an impressive
24.3MP CMOS sensor, the largest seen on a Compact System Camera so far. With
the same reduced shutter release lag as the NEX-5N and rapid autofocus the main
of this model seems to be professional users, with the new TRINAVI control
system, dual mode dials and OLED viewfinder bound to entice DSLR users looking
for something more compact.

The Sony NEX-5N, much
like the recently released Sony NEX-3C, updates a previous model with a few
significant additions. The rapid shutter release and autofocus system are
transported across from the NEX-7, and the 16.1MP sensor is a marked increase
from the NEX-5. The burst rate also jumps from 7 to 10fps, although from a
physical point of view there’s little between the new release and it’s
predecessor.

Finally the two SLT
models, which offer the same translucent mirror technology as the a55 and a35,
are the Sony A77 and Sony A65. The A77 offers the fastest burst rate currently
offered by an APS-C sized sensor DSLR at 12fps alongside the OLED viewfinder
that appears on the NEX-7 and a 24.3MP sensor. The A65 offers the same sensor
and viewfinder, but takes a slight dip in the burst mode stakes by offering
10fps. A 3″ LCD screen is available on both models, although the A77’s option
is able to rotate on both a horizontal and vertical axis.

One of the more
significant additions is the OLED viewfinder, which offers an impressive 2.3 million
dot resolution. Appearing on both the A77 and NEX-7, this new display method is
yet another leap forward for both SLT and CSC cameras, giving the benefits of
OLED to viewfinders for the first time.
