Latest rugged Lumix cameras announced: introducing the Panasonic FT4/TS4 and affordable FT20/TS20

Panasonic has announced the new FT4 and FT20 (known as the TS4 and TS20 in the US), a pair of new additions to its acclaimed tough series. The pair feature a host of ‘life-proof’ features, targeted at those with active lifestyles.

The Panasonic FT4 is the higher specified of the pair and offers a range of impressive features. The compact is waterproof to a depth of 12m, shockproof from a drop of 2m and freezeproof down to temperatures as low as -10degrees Celsius. The FT4’s outdoor capabilities don’t stop at its toughness – the compact features built-in GPS, a compass, altimeter and barometer, covering the adventurer’s every need.

The Panasonic FT4 isn’t just a rugged camera: It sports a specification that more than matches its tough credentials. The FT4 features a LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens complete with 4.6x optical zoom, alongside a 12.1MP CCD sensor and LSI Venus Engine for image processing. The FT4 also boasts full HD video capture at a resolution of 1080p.

The Panasonic FT20 is the second of the tough cameras announced today. The compact features a similar specification, although is the more family-friendly and scaled back model of the two – it’s waterproof to 5m, shockproof to 1.5m and freezeproof to -10degrees Celcius. The model also offers HD video capture, albeit at the lower resolution of 720p, and features a 25mm wideangle lens with 4x optical zoom.

There’s no news on pricing or availability on the pair as yet, but they should be on shelves in the very near future.
