Does Nikon's latest cashback offer spell the end for the Nikon D3100?

Nikon announced a new cashback offer on the Nikon D3100, Nikon D5100 and Nikon D7000. A maximum of £100 can be claimed back, depending on the amount of lenses and model purchased. This new offer adds fuel to the rumours that the D3100, which was released in August 2010, is primed to be replaced by a new DSLR soon.

The emergence of the D800 and D4 this year has brought a number of new features to the fore, many of which are expected to filter down through the range. It seems 2012 is already hotting up as a DSLR-heavy 12 months, with Canon and Sony adding to their ranges as well.

The D5100 isn’t yet 12 months old, and the D7000 seems to fill an important gap in the range, so the D3100 is the next logical model to be replaced. The 14.2MP sensor and 100-3200 ISO range would certainly be improved upon, with the likes of a 24MP resolution being touted. Check here for more information once it’s released.
