A definition Demosaicing

The process of interpolating an image from its raw format, to provide it with complete colour information. This is a consequence of using a colour filter array, which only allows information about one colour to be captured at each photosite. It works by estimating colour values based on those of neighbouring pixels, and can be done in-camera or through a third-party raw converter such as Adobe Camera Raw.
