Canon lenses which contain Diffractive Optical Elements. These are designed with fine grooves on their surface (diffractive gratings), which change the refractive index of any light passing through them. Canon claims that using a number of these in combination with further lenses has the effect of practically eliminating chromatic aberration, while also allowing for more compact lens designs.
