G11 v EOS 450D?

At the moment I have a Nikon P100 but I am not that impressed with the image quality.

I want to get further into photography as I have been shortlisted for a few competitions. But do I go for the G11 or the 450D? On ebay the G11 is £285 and the 450D £349.

I have always had a point and shoot and never owned a dslr. I like taking wildlife and seascapes.

Confused and pondering???

The g11 is a nice camera and will give you all the manual control you want. The 450d is a DSLR and will give better results but you will have to invest in lenses to get the best results plus doing some post processing. You have to decide how far you want to go the the choice might be easier. good luck

If you want the ultimate control over your images in all sorts of light then a DSLR is the way to go

like wave & Siuya have said a DSLR
is the way to go and the 450D is a good first time DSLR the reviews on it are good
and it will still act just like your point-n-shoot camera until you get the hang of the settings
inside the 450D and once you have worked around the settings inside you will find you have much more control over your images and the bonus as well of fitting other size lens to the camera body

I would say go the DSLR. I have a point and shoot and the Canon 50D and I am never really happy with the quality of most of the photos from the point and shoot. It is a learning curve with the DSLR, but a pleasant one.

Unfortunately by the time I had made up my mind to get the DSLR they were all gone!!!

Now I have looked into it a bit more I think I will wait for another offer and go for a DSLR with a 18-135mm lense.
