    Default Changing my camera

I am considering selling my Canon SX1 IS on Ebay, in order to purchase a DSLR. I know it will be an older model, but would the 400D have as good a sensor as the SX1 IS?

    Thanks Bazzer

Hi, there is no comparison between the sensors as the SX1 is smaller than your finger nail at 6.2 x 4.6 mm and the 400D a couple of postage stamps at 22.2 x 14.8 mm. The bigger the sensor, the better the images, especially in low light.

Everything changes with a DSLR - no longer is everything in focus for a start and you would need to look at a separate lens to get near 20x zoom. However, there is so much more you can do with one...

Check out Canon's DSLR tutorial (in picture format) that runs through all the basics of a DSLR before you make up your mind.

    Enjoy

Thanks Chris - that is what I thought. The one I am looking at comes with an additional 300mm lens, which although it is nowhere near the 20X zoom, it is the picture quality I am after. Should have gone DSLR in the first place, but obviously didn't do enough research - persauded by the zoom and the HD video. Low light is an issue with the SX1 IS.

Default 400D & Focal Length Multiplier

    The 400D has a http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/key=...gth_multiplier of 1.6. So a 300mm lens becomes 480mm.

    Enjoy

Thankyou both. I am borrowing one to try. Can you tell me if you can view the shot on the screen as well as through the viewfinder? If so, how do I do it??!

    Default Live view

There is no http://www.digital-slr-guide.com/live-view-lcd.html on the 400D.

If you would like to read more and download the PDF manual http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/suppor...gital_rebel_xt

Is there any difference in the various versions of the 550d (Rebel etc) - are they just US and Europe models?

    Nope!

I only sent you to US Canon site as it's easier to download manuals etc.

I replied to your other post as well http://www.whatdigitalcamera.com/for...ead.php?t=2210

    Default Highly Recommended Choice!

If you are looking to buy a DSLR then do not overlook the Canon 550D! You can pick one up these days for under 600 and it comes with the ability to shoot some high quality images and with a very impressive feature list. The features of this camera rival that of cameras more than twice the price. Don't buy anything until you check it out. There are specs for this camera over at www.canon550d.co.uk
