Music magazine teams up with Nikon to launch national competition

The NME – one of the largest music weekly publications – has once again teamed up with Nikon in this year’s ‘Music Photography Awards 2013′.

The competition is aimed at finding the very best in music photography, with all levels of photographers accepted in both amateur and professional categories.

Shots by amateurs will be accepted in the forms of live, portrait, documentary, festival and under-18’s, whereas the professional category will be competing for the Photographer of the Year award.

Both category winners will walk away with a Nikon 1 J3 camera kit, while the professional category winner will receive a Nikon D600 digital SLR kit worth over £2,400.

The amateur winners can also win the Grand Prix category, receiving a Nikon 1 J3 camera kit and up to £500 of Nikon camera equipment.

Each winner will also have their work featured alongside a legendary photographer at an exhibition in London later this year.

The judging panel this year will consist of legendary photography Roger Sargent, NME editor Mark Williams and picture Editor Zoe Capstick.

Williams says, “The exposure has allowed past winners to go on to achieve brilliant things, including shooting professionally for NME. We’re really looking forward to assessing the entrants this year”.

The competition opens today and entrants have until mid-September to submit their perfect shots. With the festival season underway, there will certainly be some great moments to capture on camera.
