Portable Speedlight flash unit compatible with Nikon DSLRs and Coolpix cameras via the accessory shoe

Product news from Nikon just keeps coming today, it seems. In addition to a new kit lens and new Coolpix cameras, the firm has announced the new SB-300 Speedlight, an entry-level flash unit which can be tilted up to 120º.

The new SB-300 Speedlight flash unit attaches to the accessory shoe Nikon DSLRs and Coolpix cameras in order to provide more lighting possibilities than in-camera flash.

With its extended angle of tilt, the SB-300 Speedlight provides broad scope for bouncing flash off walls and ceilings. A guide number of 18m (59ft) at ISO 100 allows for illumination of distant subjects.

The SB-300 is powered by two AAA-size batteries, and Nikon says its compact size will make it an ideal travel companion. The Speedlight is compatible with Nikon’s i-TTL flash control, and its firmware is updateable via the camera body. A thermal cutout function prevents damage due to overheating.

The Nikon SB-300 Speedlight flash unit is priced at £139.99 and will be available from August 29th 2013.
