New Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 from SanDisk promises speeds more than double those of the current fastest cards

With the 120GB SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 memory card, SanDisk is making a lofty claim indeed.

Billed as the world’s fastest memory card, SanDisk says the new Extreme Pro CFast card can achieve read speeds of up to 450MB/s and write speeds of up to 350MB/s – more than double those of current fast cards.

For comparison: a 100GB file that takes 20 minutes to transfer from CompactFlash at 90MB/s will take just four minutes on the Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 at 450MB/s.

The card is the first to utilise the new CFast 2.0 specification outlined by CompactFlash Association last year, early adopters of which include Canon and ARRI.

Masaya Maeda, Canon’s managing director and chief executive of image communication product operations, said, ‘With extremely fast performance, CFast 2.0 memory cards will enable us to develop next-generation cameras with more powerful features, enabling future 4K Ultra HD video recording capability.’

The new Extreme Pro cards are also built to be highly durable, with protection against damage damage via shock, vibration or extreme, as well as a pinless design that eases the process of changing cards.

Given that SanDisk is claiming to have created the world’s fastest memory card, it seems only right that someone should test them on it. We’ll be taking a look at the card ourselves, so watch this space.

In the meantime, you can visit the SanDisk official site to find out more. The New SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 memory cards are available in 60GB and 120GB capacities. We’re not yet sure how much they’ll cost, but SanDisk says they will be available soon.
