Sony 50mm f/1.8 Review.
The Sony 50mm f/1.8: This lens is a new addition to the ever growing list of Sony digital SLR cameras and accessories/equipment, and this is one piece of kit to be reckoned with. It is sold at a bargain basement price of £130, and Sony is giving you £20 cash back, which takes it to a total of £110, which in my opinion is amazing value. With the lens having a maximum aperture of f/1.8, it is invaluable in low light situations, allowing you to shoot at much faster shutter speeds than what would be possible with the Sony alpha kit lenses, and achieving a nice out of focus background couldn't be any easier. The lens is generally very sharp throughout it's entire aperture range, comfortably sailing above the critical 0.25 cycles per second, in fact the lens is so good value for money, when plotted on an MTF chart against its bigger brother the 50mm f/1.4, it generally scores quite a bit higher.
The only slight problem with the lens is that the focus ring is not the easiest to grip, and the AF/MF switch can be quite fiddly at times, but that's not really a problem considering the price that you pay for the lens.
So, the bottom line to the lens is that it is amazing value for money, and anybody with a Sony alpha camera should have one of these in their bag!
