Adobe has unveiled its eleventh version of its consumer photo editing software – Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. Designed to be a more friendly and intuitive release, it arrives almost a year to the day after Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 was announced. Targeting family members and photo enthusiasts, Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 has been created to make it easier than ever before to edit and categorise photographs, as well as enhance upon the functionality we’ve seen before.

As with all new Adobe releases, the question we ask is how can it differentiate itself from previous versions? Well, there have been a multitude of changes to the media Organizer and the redesign is intended to present information in an easier and more approachable way. New Organizer views let users intuitively sort and manage photos or video clips based on people, places, and events. The idea behind this is to provide many ways of finding the shots you’re looking for when you’d like to locate them in a hurry. The new Places view that’s integrated with Google maps expands on this. It lets you assign images to areas of the world, you can search for shots based on the location at which they were taken, or you can let the camera’s GPS coordinates automatically add images to the map. In the Events view, it’s also possible to search for shots you’ve taken based on the date, month or year they were taken.

Moving into the full editing area of Adobe Photoshop Elements 11, there have been further refinements in this area too. The three key editing modes – Quick, Guided and Expert remain, catering for different interests and skill level, however larger icons, larger sliders and the refreshed layout contribute to a much cleaner appearance.

There are three new filters in the latest version of Photoshop Elements 11 including Comic, Graphic Novel and Pen & Ink. Other revisions include modification and enhancement to the Refine Edge dialog, which now features an on-white view.

Photoshop Elements 11 also supports the use of Actions and there’s the option of importing actions that automate repetitive editing tasks to save time.

When it comes to sharing your work, Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 lets you showcase images in a number of ways. including email and direct upload to Facebook and Youtube. Twitter however isn’t supported

You can make calendars, scrapbook pages, cards with professionally designed templates, or customize aspect of your creations. There’s also interactive online albums in Photoshop Elements 11 that allow you to share your albums online via Photoshop Showcase on your website.

Available soon, previous Photoshop Elements 10 users will be eligible to an upgrade price of to £65. Those purchasing Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 for the first time will pay £79 and for anyone that decides they’d like Adobe Premiere Elements 11 too, it can be purchased as part of a bundle with Photoshop Elements 11 for £119.
