Help! I am using elements 6. When I make a new layer via cut (select area then cut that area to form a new layer) I get a line around the selection that stays on the image which I cannot seem to get rid off. The colour of the line is the same as the background colour it would seem, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check to see if you have 'feather' set on the marquee tool
The would cut/copy with a faded edge around it.

Thanks for quick response but tried that and no joy I'm afraid.
Strange thing is theres no line there if I make a layer via copy but there is if I make a layer via cut!?!
Tried messing with feather / smooth but has no effect other than to make the coloured line smoothed or feathered!

Well Fen, not as far as I can see.
Heres a pic to illustrate - look closely you will see lines they are around the layers I have made by cutting a selection.
The colour of the line is the whatever the background colour is set to!
There does seem to be a workaround if thats the best way - that is to make a copy of the background before cutting. The cut line only appears on the layer you have cut from.
Maybe the program is supposed to do this?? Maybe its the way I am using layers??
HELP!! PLEASE!!
(ignore quality of shot please I know its under exposed but i am adjusting it, its the only way I couldn't get blown highlights as she was under a bright window)
Moderators Note: Don't forge the 600px (longest edge) rule. Thankyou.

This is normal behavour, as you are making a selection and using make new layer by cut it will show as a white line because the background is white when using cut. When using make layer via copy the background is the original image so no white shows through . Layer by cut is only used if you want part of the background layer to be revealed,if no background layer is present then the colour of your back colour swatch (square) will be revealed ok.
