      #681173 - 21/07/2008 11:37

Hi all, hope everyone is well.

Im wanting to take my camera out to take some good shots involving water (lakes, sea, rivers etc)somewhere within 2 hours drive of birmingham. Can anyone recommend me any good areas to suit this?

thanks very much

Two hours from Brum barely gets you to the seaside on a good day, and certainly won't get you to the Lake District. The Peak District has several interesting rivers and the odd lake, so can be worth a look, Rutland Water isn't that far away, and there are plenty of rivers about - loads of locations along the Severn, for instance, or the Avon. Other options are places like Kingsbury Water Park, or even Sutton Park. Depends really exactly what you want to shoot.

Bristol, severn estuary, severn bridges maybe?

Within 2 hours easy.

Carsington Water (near Derby).

Lots of interesting & accessible places along the River Trent, including some amazing landscapes with cooling towers, which can be got without straying close enough to be mistaken for a terrorist "casing the joint".

Dovedale (if you can stand ducks and trees, not to mention the surfeit of tourists. Walk half a mile from the car park to lose most of the last. But really watch out for the first, they're cheeky and aggressive enough to steal your lunch sandwiches from your hand!)

The Elan Valley at Rhayader, around 70 miles from Birmingham. You should just do that in 2 hours. Reservoirs and mountains, can't go wrong.
