Got the new D40 today. No memory card in the box. Is this correct? Shop now closed for the day.

I don't think you get them with a DSLR...
But, didn't you check/ask in the shop?

Memory cards are not supplied with new dslrs. Your local supermarket will likely carry SD cards.

Ouch that's gotta hurt
Buy the smallest cheapest one to get you off and running as they will be extortionate from the local SuperDuper Market. Then have a look at some real serious memory here with free P&P and quick delivery....:)

My D40 and D80 both came without memory cards. I don't know of any dSLR that does come with one. Not sure I can remember any film SLR that came with a roll of film either. All 3 that I bought didn't.

I'm very surpirsed that the shop didn't try to sell you one, that's often where they can make a big margin.

The last 2 film SLRs I bought both came with a roll of film - thrown is as a slight sweetener to the deal (without me asking for them). Never used them since they were unknown brands and I prefer Kodak or Fuji.
Not had a memory card in either DSLR box, although my Coolpix 3100 (compact) did come with a 16MB CF card. Plenty of sources of cheap (branded) cards on the web - High Street prices are inflated at best and downright extortionate at worst.

Glad in a way I didn't get one where I bought the camera. Got a 2GB one today, £15 off at Argos.
