The last 2 issues delivered to me have arrived with the polythene (sp?) wrapper 'open' !
Has there been any freebie items or suplements included with the subscription mag that may have been pinched or is this just an issue with the publisher's quality control

Not in the one that came last weekend & I can't remember a notice that there would be with the one that should have, but didn't, arrive yesterday.
If my postie wanted to steal the advertising inserts I'd applaud rather than criticize him for his efforts. Saves clogging up my waste bin.
BTW polythene is a trade name, polyethylene is the chemical name for the same stuff. Brilliant for making buckets & food containers from, but a terrible waste of resources when used for packaging. Any chance of getting the wrapper replaced with a more environmentally friendly paper variety?

Well no, not really. Poly(ethene) is the correct chemical name for it. Polythene has always struck me as a far better usage than the incorrect polyethylene - at least it's only one letter out.

Agreed, however the point that in this day and age it shouldn't be is a very good one.

Err, you're asking Nick and beejaybee not to be nerdy? That's like asking the Beckhams not to court publicity.

Sorry, Nick, but when I was at school C2H4 was called ethylene. That's what my Dad called it and he was something of an expert on the subject, he was making polyethylene when it was still confined to research labs. "Ethene" is a silly name, it's too easily confused with ethane C2H6 which has entirely different physical and chemical properties.

Regardless, I think IUPAC takes precedence on this matter. And I was told at school that "ethylene" was an "old-fashioned and no longer correct" term, certainly none of the chemistry lecturers/professors at university ever used it during the materials portion of my degree - and that's over 20 years ago...

My grandfather used to say "vydeo" for 'video' (he'd clearly 'read' the word before 'hearing' it). I chose not to follow his lead...

Oooooo, I knew I was missing something whilst on holiday and promising myself that I wouldn't check my emails or these forums while away.
