My new site being built
      #676641 - 09/07/2008 11:10

Hi folks.

I have started to make a new site for my pics and would like some feedback on the design, navigation etc.

I am keeping it as basic as possible because I just want to show my hobby and the results of that hobby :-)
Colour gallery links work but the links in the mono gallery are broke so don't click any there.

The 1st pic in colour gallery is Bedruthen Steps. When mose over occures, a text appears with the specifics.

All feedback greatly appreciated.

Its a bit slow to load, checking the porperties shows the images are scaled, but come from originals bordering on a megabyte each, which is a bit much...

It would be helpful if there was a 'Next' button or something for each photo, as I personally wouldnt stay long if I have to constantly click back to go to the gallery to click on another picture.

Im not getting any of the detail you mention on hovering the mouse over the picture. (Bedruthen Steps or any of the others).

Personally Im not keen on the embossed style youve got for the thumbnails in the gallery, or the camera behind 'About' 'Contact' etc - Id keep it simple, but thats a personal preference.

Youve got some great pictures there though!

btw 'Mussels' is not spelt 'Muscles' thats a different thing

Further, longer, higher, older...

Thanks erm :-)

I think I will have to scale the images down and resize them.
I did notice how slow they loaded up. I think it is because I simply resized the image size on the page rather than resizing the whole thing and shrinking the file So will definately be doing that.

I agree about having a "Back" button. I am going to put that on for definate and add a "next" button at some stage too.

Oh... thanks for the spelling correction, will rectify that soon too :-)

Image size now reduced and "Previous" and "Next" buttons added.
Hopefully this makes navigation easier and faster :-)

I think the main thing I dislike about the site are the borders/gloss/3D look on those thumbnails. I prefer some clean and simple, but hey, it's not my site ;p

The 'Home' 'About' 'contact' text seem quite weak, looks pixelated and the Nikon camera has some white edges around it which could be removed >:

Have you not uploaded the mono images? I get a 404 message when trying to view them

The mono image is pretty hard on the eyes and is hard to actually know what the text say.

But besides those points, some really nice images on there, great colours on that cornflower

Cheers Panda :-)

I think I will get rid of the way the thumnails are and replace them with simple thumbnails so that they are clearer.
The mono images aren't linked up yet but will do that soon as.

I think I will replace the "home, about, contact" buttons with simple links too. I agree with you both, they don't really go.

Thanks for the feedback, very much appreciated!

Have updated it and now there are no broken links.
I have simplified the top links/buttons and the galleries have thumbnails now rather than the 3d things and there are a few monos there :-)

Again, thanks fr the feedback.

Hi Baz, some very nice shots there and I like the style of your site, clean and simple. I liked your Great Yarmouth image - slightly surreal/image-like rather than a photograph.

I'm looking at putting together a simple website and was wondering what package you used to build yours?

Thanks for the comment :-)
I simply used "Microsoft Front Page 2003". It is very simple to use and can make pretty much any kind of site you want.
The HTML is also simple too which is why it is so user friendly.
