That control panel looks a trifle daunting. It's price is also a bit of a step up from the SB800.

Well, the SB600 goes for around £125 and I can't see it dropping a whole lot more. If the SB800 goes down even further, then it will really highlight the price difference between it and the SB900.

Why do you think the cost of any of these products will go down given the rising cost of raw materials and energy and the decline of the pound against the yen? We'll be lucky not to see them go up.

beacuse i still think nikon make these units for a lot less than they sell them for. look how much cameras drop from what they started at. D3 for exmaple? still think there is room for these to drop a bit. people will still buy the SB-900 even if they dont need everything it can do.

I wouldn't worry too much about the price, if you buy it straight away then you'll pay full price. Give it a year and it'll be cheaper. The Canon 580 MkII is now available for £280, It was around £400 last year (or now if you buy from Jessops).

Simple economics. The cost to manufacture decreases the greater the number produced. Once the R&D costs are recouped then profit increases, once you past that point the price can drop to a point where it's only covering the now reduced manufacturing costs plus margin. After that, once new products come in the the product line, supply and demand then push the price down.
