Shouldn't the title be "Sony illuminates its backside"?

I was wondering how long it would take for backside illumination to become the butt of a few jokes

Well, there's always some useless bum scraping the bottom of the barrel. And it's usually me being an ass...

Well there was this teenager I saw a few years ago down in Tottenham at night who was by a window (possibly his I am not sure) and was shining a light at his bare bum to his mates down on the street. At that time I thought what an idiot.....
I think he should sue Sony!

Isn't this an exaggerated load of tosh? According to Sony's diagram, all our pictures are not just marred, but virtually blocked out by a pile of cabling sprawled across them. I've never heard anyone say...
"Lovely picture; pitty about the wiring", or
"Gorgeous bokeh complimented by good wiring swirl" As John Major once almost said, a back lit sensor never buttered any parsnips.
Besides, my company is offering anti-wiring shampoo for washing sensors with 'cableruff'!

This is hardly new, they've been making back illuminated sensors for years. Possibly not marketing them in consumer grade cameras though. Another trick is making the chip very very thin & putting a reflective layer at the back so there is another chance to catch any photons which are missed on the first pass when they're reflected back.

Oddly enough we've all got by for the last million or so years looking through the cabling.
The anatomy of the mammalian eye has light having to get through all the blood vessels, nerves and whatnot before it gets to the image sensitive cells.

Weird.........
Being an almost total electronics ignoramus I'd always assumed that the 'wiring' was behind the photodiodes..............

The Octopussy what-not squid family creature has an almost identical eye to we (and I use that word advisedly) Humans but wired up at the back. Has Sony made any mention of the number 8

I wonder how much of a drain this technology has on the battery?

They are just assuming that either no-one will use it for close-up portraits or that eveyone is free of halitosis these days............
