Being a totally unreformed spendaholic where photo goods are concerned, I was quite interested to find their latest catalogue bundled with today's AP. How disappointing to then find that the prices for Canon lenses and DSLRs were not printed, and that I should call or see the Web. So, in my case a waste of paper & ink which is on its way to being recycled.

I've found Jacobs to be dearer than elsewhere ... the lens I bought today is 50 quid more at Jacobs than the equally reputable company I bought it from.
I totally agree that mags/flyers/adverts .. whatever without prices are a waste of time.

Although the Jacobs Catalogue has nothing to do with AP...
Have a look at the adverts in AP, you'll find a lot of places don't actually put the prices of new gear printed. But direct you to the website for the latest price as they change so quickly.

I agree with Fen, in a very volatile market, it is not an option to print prices weeks ahead of publication as they are out of date. Surely it is not a problem to check a website nowadays for the latest prices?
I went into Jessops, Dundee, last Saturday to check out 3 compacts and walked away with a Canon G9 as they were able to price-match their own website, a saving of £40, Thanks Jessie's

It is if you're not on the internet, like many millions of people in this country.

It's surely safe to assume that the poster is connected to the internet when.......

... but it's pointless showing the goods without the prices - and many dealers do in fact find it entirely possible to be forthcoming. It just seems a certain few who do this, and have for years, it used to be "phone for prices" now it's "check website for prices".

I really should have been more specific!
Jacobs haven't published any DSLR prices for any brand as far as I can see. They have published SLR lens prices (p29, 31, 32) but not for Canon, although one zoom lens slipped through on p11. So Canon, the brand I use, is getting different treatment from Nikon etc.
I normally refer to Camera Price Buster for the latest new lens prices, and frequently find that the lowest new prices are very close to what the more established s/h dealers are asking.

It is not a waste of time for the seller.
That way you have to phone, and they have the opportunity to sell to you and get your contact details.
They know we all compare prices on the web and in ads, and that we only contact the favoured retailer...so any thing that makes us phone them is a bonus.

Not if you're expecting to hike them soon.
Remember the Good Old Days of the 70s when inflation was 20%+ and nobody ever put a price tag on anything? Expect those days back Real Soon Now, thank you Gordon the Prudent

My, Gordon has been busy, hasn't he. Single-handedly engineering earthquakes in China, talking up oil market speculation, directing OPEC and the Russian Gas maffia, advising the boards of major (mostly US) banks to repackage high-risk mortgage debt, pushing that George Bush fellow into a war when he's really a pacifist at heart, causing wheat crops to fail...amazing!

But I don't phone... and I don't think I'm alone with that reaction either - a minority maybe but not alone! I guess it's a tactic that must work for them though otherwise they wouldn't do it.

Perhaps, in this instance, it's conceivably something to do with the expected shelf-life of the catalogue and anticipated fluctuations in the supply price.

I walked into Jessops Dundee last Saturday and walked out with as much as I had walked in with. However, before this I walked into the Tesco on Riverside Drive and bought more than I should have (always wanted to find out what Praktica digicams were like........ and I only just got everything into my one piece of hand luggage for the return flight on Sunday). Oh, I never got to the Dundee "dome"
