I think the problem is Rog that it is a) a new lens to the range and therefore not everyone will be stocking it, because b) it's a G SSM and will be seen as 'Pro' or 'Semi-Pro'

Here is a good write-up of the lens and I bought one an hour or two back for £550 from Devon Camera Centre.

I'll post a report a few days after I get it and have had time to access it for the kind of use I intend it for. I expect I'll be pleased with it

If you find you have a lens or two `spare` later, then pass them my way as `freebies`.......................

Not sure about that, popped into Jessops at lunchtime to pick up a lowepro slingshot 200 (they were %180 of prices in AP, decided to mail order instead!)

Anyway they had a 70-300G on the shelf, which was weird as this store has hardly any Sony and no A700, not sure someone spending £299 on an A200 would drop £579 on the new lens!

In any case, not really that "pro" if its in Jessops...

Probably not but it does make senses to spend more on lenses than the body. Lenses stay with you but cameras get changed as time and aspirations move on.

Sure, your talking to the man who has a 70-200G on the front of a KM 5D ;-)

My point was the *average jessop's shopper* would not spend 2x a camera on a lens...
