A Peregrine Falcon.................
      #654491 - 13/05/2008 08:41

...........has been found poisened in Swansea, one of a pair that have nested on top of Telecom Tower for several years. It is suspected that pigeon fanciers baited it with strychnine and police are investigating.Tried posting a link to local paper but the URL must have been too long or something `cause it didn`t work
anyone interested go to thisissouthwales.co.uk and follow the links.(page4 of local news linky)Very sad.I`ve taken many pics of them over the years.

Cheers Dave

This is sad news.

Although not quite the same, we have a beautiful pair of pheasants nesting in the wild patch of land next to our house, but I fear for their safety because of what other people in the locality might choose to use them for.:(

That's incredibly sad - it's a shame the strychnine wasn't used in more productive ways, like poisoning geral chavs who damage peoples cars.

Am off to the website you mentioned now.

Would that be fatal poisoning, or merely debilitating?

Well.. depends how much strychnine you have, I guess! Any left over stuff can be given to the evil fanciers who killed the poor Falcon, but I am still reserving a huge vat of the stuff for the car theives...

The biggest threat to raptors comes from gamekeepers, but I believe pigeon-fanciers run them a close-second in South Wales.

I believe that pigeon fanciers are the bigest problem up here. The sad thing is that the pigeon fanciers kill far more pigeons than the falcons.

It's a pity we can't bait the pigeons with a bit of anthrax or something for their owners ...

I find people that do this to animals sick in the head. Being a long time member of the RSPB it sickens me to hear such news.

Wouldn't you want something to light the blow torch with?
