... so how long until "Idiotic Iguana" is replaced with "Jumping Jackass"?

I'm a happy linux user but I do object to (a) new releases on a frequent basis when a patch set is more than sufficient, (b) idiotic nicknames instead of proper version numbers.

................well personally I'm looking forward to "Jeri's Jugs" but I do tend to agree that a patch would probably be a much more sensible approach than trying to pretend that you've got a new OS every six months!

I loved Hardy Heron, except that my Toshiba laptop had some hardware that was not supported. I had no sound whatsoever whatever I did and that came from Gutsy Gibbon already. My EeePC has had no problems whatsoever though but I wanted to take the plunge and have it on my normal laptop. So, I made mine dual boot with XP and Mandriva 2008. Man am I happy with Mandriva, top notch system and comes with Compiz Fusion from the onset, so no headaches trying to install packages for it.

My main problem with Hardy is the Firefox beta that's packaged with it. Not sure I like it at all ....

........I can't say I've really noticed much difference with the firefox Beta to be honest. Fonts look a bit different or something but other than that it seems to work fine..................for me anyway!

I'm having trouble getting it to play streaming media without crashing. Ah well, I'll keep plugging away ...

Hey Will, does it still have Planet Penguin Racer?

Had Ubuntu on my desktop after I had a problem testing Vista. Used it for ages mainly for browsing and playing games till I wanted it back for picture editing/storage space so put XP back on it.

Why not have the best of both worlds Rhys and have Ubuntu and Windows running as a dual boot setup on the one partitioned drive? I have that running on one of my PC's at the minute. It was easy to set up as the Ubuntu disk allows you to allocate how much space you want to give to each OS and then it does all the partitioning and setup for you! One great advantage of such a setup is that you can still access the files on the windows partition from Ubuntu so if Windows cocks up on you you should still be able to recover your files from Ubuntu! Worth installing Ubuntu for that reason only if for none other I reckon! Cool or what!

Aye, very cool - except my laptop has about 800Mb of memory left so have to keep erasing unused programmes so unfortunatly no room for anything else.

Will have to see what nice Mr Taxman gives me back (if anything) after he's done my accounts - might be a new computer or a new hard-drive or a bottle of Bushmills..

"Aye, very cool - except my laptop has about 800Mb of memory left".................................do what I do Rhys and delete the pornography off it................................that usually frees up about a terabyte of space!
