She's a photographer I know very little about, stumbling upon the odd image of hers in compilations of street photography but this piece in the New York Times has made me more appreciative of her work. If Weegee, Arbus and Winogrand are your gods then have a look at this article on Jill Freedman.

Hi Alan,
Oddly enough, I am familiar with Ms. Freedman and her work because, if memory
serves, one of my early mentors (a PJ in Winnipeg) liked her work and passed her
name on to me 
Really amazing photographs .... and a neat history of "old(ish)" New York or, at least,
before it was cleaned up

yes Alan,
when i was a student and had just contracted the bug, jill freedman was already making waves. it was the time of all the protests in america.........vietnam, civil rights, poverty etc. and she documented those times. the photograph that sticks in my memory is the one of the girls jumping rope. it's one of those pics that for no particular reason just delights me and is engraved on my brain in that 'special photo file'.
