Flasgun for Fuji S9600?
      #642517 - 13/04/2008 19:55

A mate is after a flasgun for his Fuji but doesn't know what will fit.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

Almost any universal mount flash will work. He can use the Vivitar 283, or a Hanimex 550pro for example. In fact he can get a Sunpak Auto 383 Super for about £60-£80 new that will work like a charm and allows exposure control (all manual but worth it).

Hope this helps.

Thanks, think he wanted one that was automatic. I'll make a note of the ones you suggest and let him know.

the vivitar 283 is a great gun, I had one years ago.

There is one on ebay with just over 4 hours left to run.

I don't think there are any automatic flash guns that will work on the Fujifilm cameras in auto mode. All of them, including the new S100Fs I think, are universal shoes and I don't think Fujifilm is making any flashes either.

It is a good think in my opinion, I brushed up on how to use flash exposure very well like that with my old S20pro.

I maybe thought that Nikon gins would fit (since Fuji use Nikon bodies for their dSLR's) but noticed the pins weren't in the same place - hence posting here.

Thanks for the replies

They may work, but will work like a dumb shoe I think. No exposure control or auto modes at all.
And you are most welcome

(I.I.R.C)The vivitar 283 has a (removable) sensor ,which you can use away from the gun with a cable, which controls the amount of output according to what ASA and power settings you have set on the main body.

So you only need to set your flash sync speed and the correct aperture according to the dial on the right hand side of the body.
