Only what I've read about this camera and it seems to have gained an unenviable reputation for unreliability due to poor build quality.........................lets hope you've got a "good-un"!

Funnily enough the 88 was the subject of Classics to Use in AP the other week.
IIRC one very important tip was not to change shutter speeds without winding on...

Hi Ring OTC on 01707 273773 and no doubt they will have a manual or a photocopy. Google Russian Cameras and you will possibly find information. Good luck. Mibron.

Thanks everyone for your replies - I looked it up in AP 16th Feb this year and it gets an OK review and then I looked online and found the Kievaholic Klub which has loads of information - if it is working as well as advertised it will be great fun and exactly what I was after for MF landscape work

I have a 6C which is like an oversized SLR but before I bought it I considered the 88 (AKA Hasselbladski). One of the things I recall well is be carefull which direction you cock the shutter (I think it should be always clockwise) and not to change the shutter speed before cocking it. But just double check with Richard (Iloca) he may be able to confirm this for you.
Have fun, I found that the Russian lenses are pin sharp and having lots of fun with my 6C. You can get a fisheye for your 88 for a fraction of the cost of your usual MF fisheye and they are very good (Arsat 30mm). With care your Kiev will last you a long time.
All the best!

The fisheye is excellent - well, if you get a good one. I'm on my second - the first non-MC one was poor, the replacement is fabulous for the money - mine's in Pentacon 6 fit, but they're optically identical.

I have 2 bodies of previous version "K-88" - "Saljut-S". They are about 40 years - and works. They differs a little from Kiev-88. I have as remember some problems with light leakages of new cassettes and fixed them, and long repair of shutter (why I bought the second body).
But now I wait digit back for them and use Nikons.

well it has arrived and seems in great condition, everything firing off where it is meant to, no noticeable problems - going to load up a couple of backs and take it up Teesdale this week for landscapes - will get back after testing

I used to have one of these. I remember having problems with the backs (don't change them in bright light) and a totally wayward metering view finder. The lens, I only had the standard, had a distinctive warm colour tint, rather like some other Soviet Block lenses but the results at best were superb. In fact, I still have two mounted prints taken with that camera on the wall of my office.
It's an interesting camera to use, I hope you enjoy it.

Hi Gordon
thanks for that - I had found an English manual at the Kievaholics Klub website - but Hartblei looks good for other bits and bobs
Have loaded a couple of back and taken a few pictures - just need to take 12 so I can process the film and have a looksee
