A friend [who was clearing out his Mother-in-Laws old house] dropped off these cameras for me. Unfortunately the Mamiya seems to have a broken film advance [unless I'm missing something The Symbolica seems to work & I'm looking forward to putting a roll of film through it this weekend! I've looked on the Web & the Symbolica seems to be one mixed up camera - almost like a rangefinder without.... ah well... a rangefinder, if you know what I mean. If anyone out there on Know-It-All street has any advice I'd be eternally gratefull, as this is the 1st camera I've used that is actually older than me cheers John

"... the Zeiss foreman on seeing this camera nicknamed it the "Idiotica." link
Both appear to be "entry level" cameras. They may be fun to run a film through, but I gather neither stimulate much interest in the vintage/collector circles. Some cameras require a film to be loaded and a magic spell cast before they will wind or operate correctly.
The Symbolica's lens (if clean) could be really rather decent, and probably significantly better than the Mamiya's. Don't worry about the scale focussing or metering - just follow the symbols and instructions normally included on a film pack.
I'd be inclined not to bother with the Mamiya and to concentrate on the Zeiss. Please post any interesting images you get from either camera .... Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply. I'll be trying a roll of film through the Idiotica this weekend. I knew it wasn't worth a lot but I'll have a bit of fun trying it out. If I get anything even half-tidy I'll post it.. Cheers John
