Durst Automatica
      #561366 - 30/10/2007 00:14

Ok folks, I thought Durst only made enlargers but a colleague at work has asked me what her husband's cameras maybe worth.

Does anyone know about a Durst Automatica with Prontor SVS shutter and Schneider Kreuznach 1:2.8/45 lens?

Honest answer - not much!

There have been two or three optimists asking £100+ this past year, but the actual price level seems between £15 and £25. Currently - if you put Durst Automatica into eBay there is one standing at 99p and the other at £99

This Automatica owner published a review here but despite all his efforts, he only got £12.50 for it.

I gave about £7 for mine, mainly for the reason that you stated - nobody had heard of them!

Quite well made with a genuinely "quality" feel about the camera.

No rangefinder, just a coupled meter that selects the shutter speed by pneumatic means - its main claim to fame!

f2.8 Schneider Radionar (I think it is a triplet)

The camera can be dated from the lens number

Shutter Prontor SVS 1 - 1/300

McKeowns says it was made from 1956 - 63. He also gives a value of $200-$300 which is wildly out and perhaps reflects pre-eBay times!

Photopia, the British agents for Durst do not list the camera after 1961 or earlier than 1959, so I honestly think McKeown is wrong with his dating as well. It was on sale for £40.6.4 in 1961
