Parts compatibility for a Contax 139Q
      #344861 - 26/07/2006 21:17

Anyone know if there are any other cameras (Yashicas or Contax) that use the same spool gear as the Contax 139Q? I broke the spool gear on my 139Q and am trying to find another camera that I can cannibalize for the part. The 139Q was my first SLR and I'm attached to it, so just trashing it and finding another 139Q that works isn't something I'm enthusiastic about. Yes, I know it will cost more to fix the one I have, but I'd still rather do that.

So does anyone know if, say, a Yashica FX-D spool gear will fit a Contax 139Q?

Thanks! I tried there earlier and the page wasn't loading for me, but it seems to be working now. If anyone here has any additional information though, I'd really appreciate it.

Hiya,

The Contax cameras shared many parts with the Yashica models of the same age..you are probably correct about the FX-D and also the FX-3 and others also probably have the same parts..suggest a visit to a camera fair..or London, to check over possible cameras to strip, if you do not mind spending 20 USD to join, then the best Contax forum is www.contaxinfo.com

Cheers Steve.

Hmmm - I really wouldn't recommend Contaxinfo.com. In fact any Contax resource would be preferable to that one!

London might be a bit out of the way for me (I'm in Seattle, US) but ebay has been a good place for me to find old Yashica FX-Ds. Unfortunately it seems that Contax and Zeiss never achieved the same market penetration in the US as they did in Europe. Our loss really.

I think I'll pick up a trashed FX-D from ebay and go from there. Thanks all for the help!
