FAQ - How to post a web link
      #342409 - 20/07/2006 09:21

There seem to be a number of people having difficult posting web links/URLs. This forum software makes it remarkably easy, and there are basically two easy methods.

1. Simply type or paste the link into a post - the software will automatically format it. (In most cases, it is much easier to cut and paste the address from the address bar of your browser than to type it yourself.)

Example: www.amateurphotographer.com

Advantages: Incredibly easy
Disadvantages: On amazingly long URLs, this has the possibility of disrupting the shape of the forum, which can be very irritating for anybody working in sized windows. If you preview a post and it looks odd, please use a service such as www.tinyurl.com to produce a more manageable URL - such as http://tinyurl.com/h4y2d .

2. Use Instant Mark-up from the box underneath the typing area. This is pretty simple, except there are two input boxes. The first is for the actual URL:

the second allows you to put whatever text you like in to make your post flow. DO NOT PASTE OR TYPE THE URL IN AGAIN, use a short piece of descriptive text.

Example: I can type in whatever I like.

Advantages: Fairly easy. Allows you to type in whatever text you wish to make your post look better.
Disadvantages: If you post an amazingly long URL into the second box, it WILL destroy the shape of the forum - so PLEASE, if you have a very long URL, put a short descriptor text into this box, do not paste the URL in again - it's just creating unnecessary work for the moderators.
