Just a bit of fun. I have been doing an Alice in Wonderland set.

Eeek did I make it too big again? I sure it was fine when I resized it...Sorryyyyyyyy

I see you've posted a 500px version - probably generated by flickr? Best thing I find is create a 600px <100K version upload that to flickr and post the original image and not anything that is resized by flickr. Flickr also adds sharpening to the images it resizes....best to do all that yourself as I find the automatic setting can be a bit OTT.
Even if you create a 600px version less than 100K the flickr 500px version can be more than 100K! (as you may have just found out for yourself )

That's why I don't use Flickr 
I did find that when I up the sharpening the file size can increase quite a bit
