Apologies if this has been asked before -I did search but found no results. I am interested in stock photography -If only as a means to pay for all that kit that I desperately 'need'! Does anyone have any general advice? Which agency? What kind of photographs etc? I don't want to become a slave to it, but if it helps fund the photos that I really want to take then it seems a good opportunity.

Professional Photographer magazine (sorry AP folks) used to have a page each month with different agencies listed and what types of images they used and what percentage commission they charged etc. Not sure if they still publish that as it was a while ago I last read it but it was a regular feature.

I feel you'll be waiting a while for Stock to start paying for kit.
A few of us here are on Alamy, difficult to give advice as allsorts of weird stuff sells on stock.
Last couple to sell were a diesel engine and a set of Dip switches.

I'm with a few agencies, Alamy, PSC and a couple of flower/plant ones.
If you're looking for a way of funding new gear... you'll need 100's if not 1000's of photos on the libraries. As well as a good dose of luck!
Agencies will take between 30%-70% of any sales you make through them.
Any agency worth it's salt will want to see your work before they allow you to join. So be prepared for lots of refusals at first.
But, keep at it. If your photos are good and saleable you'll get in. Best of luck

I've never managed to get anywhere in this field. As soon as I've tried to take a photo of stock, my lens has misted up.
