I was actually very dissapointed in this weeks edition, the front cover looked like an edition of 'digital Camera' with guides to this and that, make the most of your dslr etc, master this, master that, not what I buy it for.

Thanks Gollom and KevP - all feed back very gratefully received. Kev, what is it you buy AP for?
Did anyone else dislike this issue? It was quite a departure for us.
Thanks in advance

Hi Damien I generally buy AP because it doesn't generally have the 'guide to' type articles, it has news and reviews and technical info, coupled with photo articles photo projects and the like.
I dont really want it to turn into an instructional magazine as there are plenty of those about.
Hope my feedback is useful, its not all bad honest!

I enjoyed it because it was so different to usual. It makes a change to have those features now and again. Just don't become like the monthlies which are all photoshop processes and not about actual photographers.

I enjoyed AP 19/7 and found the Mastering Exposure and White Balance articles useful, as a kind of refresher which made me think about a few details I hadn't really considered for a while. I agree with Hotblack that while I wouldn't want to see this kind of thing in every issue, every month or two is probably useful.
How about a Mastering Focus and In Depth of Field next? I do at times find myself uncertain as to how to make the best use of all the focus modes and features on modern DSLRs.

What I really want is clear & concise instructions about how to put a film in my new camera.
It has is no opening back, just a small door in the side which is no use at all. I really had to flatten the cassette first - now Boots tell me they can't get the film out. Has 35mm been replaced by a new small sheet film ? Why haven't I been told?
Paul
P.S. Quite an interesting article, but once in a while please (3 months?) I feel AP is a "cut above" the others - PP has continued its decline into a "Digital for Dummies" guide and I never buy it now. So please don't go down that route Damien.
I do find the really technical articles a challenge sometimes, but they are what makes AP a "must buy" at least it then doesn't become a "five minute read" - one has to go back and spend time understanding what the technical team are trying to get across. (Certain lens articles have been quite advanced with very big words - obviously well above the average reading age!)

Well, I've been known to voice the odd grumble here and there so credit where it's due - I thought it was a great issue and a refreshing change from camera comparisons. Well done! I think some of the other comments are fair in that we don't necessarily want these kind of articles to take over either, but as part of the whole mix that is AP at its best as an 'all rounder', YES, more of this kind of stuff please. I certainly agree that features on individual photographers are a particular AP strength.

Or perhaps compare it with other issues of AP and place them in order on a podium!

Be aware that older copies of AP, although they may actually have a higher score, may not be on the top of the podium due to newer issues being more advanced.

Not quite finished it yet, but it gets my vote too
...but why the emphasis on DSLRs? Don't high end compacts and bridge cameras have similar features!

Right first of all, the new film comes in little flat packs that slot in much easier and are completely reusable, bonus, no more of them rolls to flatten or buy. If you shoot about 5 rolls a week that a considerable saving on film not to mention processing cost. Secondly take the old roll of film and consign it to history where it belongs! Put it on the mantle piece for future generations to stare at in wonderment of how things use to be done
