For me the colour version, the face in black and white one is too high key for mine. What I would say though is the curl over the left (to us) eye is distracting and with the style of hair I think a close crop, cropping around the face using the hair as a frame, would work better.

As it stands the colour version is far better.

The mono seems to be a straight channel mixer conversion with the red channel at 100%...

Were you trying for something more like this?...



Red Channel: 60 red 30 green & 10 blue plus curves adjustment.

I did try to lighten the skin tones on the mono version, and also the hair. The result isn't high key, but it does slightly bleach the details from the face. Maybe it falls between two stools... not quite high key (for those who like that sort of thing) and not enough skin tone for a standard processing.

Your processing certainly keeps the texture in his face - but, on consideration I think I'm leaning more towards the colour version.

I like the colour version better - although they both look good - but the intensity of the eyes is lost when it's converted to Mono, there just seems to be something more vivid when it's in colour
