This was a grab shot at a three day event in France. It is my mother's horse waiting to be presented for veterinary approval to continue in the competition (this is a standard part of the competition for all horses). I know pictures of animals and chldren usually mean more to those who know them than to the general populus, but I have to admit to being quite taken with this one as a study in itself as well as a nice portrait of a horse I have known since he was born.

The image is virtually as taken - a very minor crop and subtle unsharp mask.

Too soft...far too little detail in the horse.
I'd also have a little play with the levels to see if I could make the horse stand out a little bit more from the background.

The full-sized image is tack-sharp; I don't understand why the image is re-sized and compressed compared to the image I uploaded to the hosting website (which was 600px high and just under 100 kB). You're right though, it looks soft as presented here.

I am not an expert on horses, but to me it looks like a model/ornament as the hair looks really smooth.
Its not the sort of thing I normally photograph so here are a couple of pictures taken by me.

It looks a bit flat but that may just be the uncalibrated laptop screen I'm viewing on. I'd prefer a tighter crop on the head as I'm not keen on the horse's legless body.
