DVD Back up

Hi .Ive started backing up my photos on to DVD now as i find useing RAW files fill up a CD quick. I got some DVD-R disks that burn ok and play ok on my pc when opened in Picasa2 .But when opened on my laptop in Picasa2 thay come out looking like some 60s pop art. Any one know why should i use DVD+R Disks. I dont want to save all my pics to DVD to find when i get a new pc in a few yers time thay wont play. Can any one help

If they are OK on your PC but not on your laptop is suggests that the fault is in the laptop rather than the disk you have recorded. Have a look at how the graphics are set up.

I suggest you, at least, make two copies of each disk on archival quality dvd blanks. Optical storage isn't that reliable and I've been grateful for the second copy in the past. Even better in my opinion would be to have the files also on a different medium. Ideally duplicate dvds and an external hard disk and then store one set elsewhere. Also make sure you finalise the optical media as they may not otherwise read on a future computer.
