Hi,
I hope someone out there in the know can answer this for me, I've just bought myself a Canon EF 70-200 L IS USM Lens for my 350D (over kill I know but hey). There is a mode switch on the side of it for the image stabilization, does anyone know what the difference is between modes 1 and 2? I've seen some documentation that says one of them is for panning and the other for static. There didn't seem to be a manual with the lens when I purchased it and Canon's website doesn't seem to have one for download, any help with this would be most useful
regards,
Jeffers.

Mode 2 for horizontal panning, stabilization in vertical plane only. Mode 1, stabilization in both horizontal and vertical planes.

Why? Just because you use it with a 350D? Rubbish lol...it's a top notch lens and can help produce excellent quality images...nothing overkill about that.
I see your question has been answered. I'll just add that I don't tend to use the panning mode often. If I know I'm going to be tracking a subject then I often just turn the IS off completely.
