I am after a trekking monopod that is light weight and cheap! Like under £40? I have a monfrotto 190XPROB tripod and pan and tilt head but just find the whole thing too heavy to carry when out walking, which is a shame as its a fine bit of kit.
So, this year, for the Lakes, I am after a monopod I can use as a walking pole too. Ideally I would like one with a small adjustable head, rather that just the camera thread.
Any suggestions?

If you'll be using a trekking pole while walking, consider a Pod (Google it!) resting on top of the pole (or anything else).

Thought I came across a trekking monopod pole with a small pan and tilt head on it once. Just a camrea thread seems a little restricting, ad no good for portrait shots (I don't have a battery grip, too big and clumsy).
Veering towards the Leki sierra. I wonder if I could attach a small pan and tilt head to this.

It might unbalance the walking pole a bit but I'm sure you could leave a small tilt head (why pan as well with a monopod?) like the Manfrotto 234 attached to the top. If it does unbalance the pole too much, leave the heat attached to the camera while walking and swap it with the knob when you want to take a pic.
(ETA - You might need a 3/8" to 1/4" adaptor - can't remember if the 234 comes with one.)

Hi, I found a great walking pole @ speedgraphic.co.uk called the Viefinder trekking pole. It is actually made by Exped but having compared it to Leki ones it is just as good quality and 1/2 the price. They also do a range of small ball heads and also the 234 and 234rc. Check them out.

I'm now contemplating the Gorrilapod over the trekking pole. I saw one at the weekend, with a small manfrotto ball head. It was so light and compact and really versatile and stable. Guess its gonna be more stable than a monopod.
Mmmm, difficult decision! Guess the gorrillapod's only going to be useful if theres a fence/tree handy to grab it on to, or if I want to shoot at ground level. While the monopod's gonna be good for anywhere, but not so stable. Advice anyone??

If you're buying a Gorrilapod, make sure you get the right one. There are several models and if you're using it for your DSLR you'll need the biggest version.
The other two version aren't really stable enough for DSLR and a BIG lens.

Gorillapod SLR Zoom is probably the one you need (don't forget a suitable head...) - £27.99 (+P&P) from 7dayshop.
