I've been asked to make a DVD from MiniDV tapes shot by my daughter yesterday on a camcorder supplied by her employers. So last night I asked what make it was. "No idea" was the reply. Same daughter has bought (without query to me) and does use both a DSLR (EOS 300D) and a Panasonic compact digicam.

Clearly those of us who post here are interested in knowing the maker's name etc., but I'm now wondering how common my daughter's attitude is to matters of modern technology. I'd expect it to matter to the marketing folks aiming to sell at the lower price levels.

Doubtless I'm about to sound a bit chauvinist but I suspect it's more to do with whether you are male or female. It does seem that, with techie stuff at least, men are deeply interested in the minutiae of who made it, how big the system is, however powerful it is and how many features/gimmicks it's got whereas women seem quite content to know that it does what they want when they want it.

I know which is probably the more rational approach too..........
