I've not seen anything like that since I wrote a dissertation for my M.Sc. It makes about as much sense as well.

Nothing new here, I think the treatment in "The Handbook of Astronomical Image Processing" is more complete and at least as understandable.

Err, looking at my copy, 650 pages of it, I don't see any reference to the Nikon D3, or the Canon EOS 1Ds III. So perhaps there is something new there, after all.

Just what I needed!
I think it was here that I said I hadn't noticed any real difference/improvement to the 14 bit processing in my latest camera.

The section on NEF lossy compression is interesting to Leica M8 users as well because it uses a similar technique for compressing raw 12 bit data down to 8 bit with a mapping table designed to give greater accuracy in the shadows than in the highlights.
