Hi,
I am looking at starting with photography properly.
Eventually i would like to make this into a hobby as it has always fascinated me but i need to know where to start.
My experience isnt great but i do learn quick.
I have a budget of £250 and am looking for a camera that i can use for the medium/long term (i use what i advise people about computers, buy the best you can it will be useful longer)
i hope this info helps, and thank you for your advice

Hi John - welcome to the forums
You really need to be a lot more specific (you knew that would be the answer ) BUT I'd say go for an entry level dSLR with kit lens. There are several different makes Canon, Nikon and Sony with deals for just under £300.
<Here> is just one as an example.

Roger's right on all counts, given what you've said, John. If you can stretch that budget a little over £250, you can do what you want and make it a purchase that will last - otherwise, you probably can't.

Hi thanks for the help,
ok specifics right. and going up to £300 if it is worth the extra then i am sure i can push to that amount
well from landscapes to groups photos is what i would be looking at (eg family holidays/parties but at a higher level than my standard point and click number i have now)
end result would be photos i can frame and hang on my wall
wouldnt be anywhere near studio quality or anything like that.
basically i am looking for a camera that will allow me to learn while i go, also delivering quality and reliability.
or to make life easier should i ask for the world on a plate :-)

Do you wish to go the DSLR route?, 35mm film SLR?, compact camera?.
For my money the Nikon D40 with 18-55 kit would take some beating for quality vs cost but it's no good if you want to slip it into a pocket so we will probably need a clue here .
