Don't buy a Lens Baby - I know there's no guarantee how any baby will grow up nowadays (I'd been hoping I'd end up with a 12-24mm wide angle zoom), but mine didn't change at all. What a con.

Hello Jack,
Upgraded the *ist then. Your lens choice depends on your intended use, so say what you want, baby. (Vague tribute to Adam Faith).
PS: What do you have now?

Hi David,
Yep, but I am still using my IST*Ds as a second(2nd) body for my DA 12-24 and the K200D is attached my 80-200/2.8 (Tokina AF) with my FA 50/1.7 hanging around waiting for it's moment to shine .....and, I guess the same could said for my 360 FGZ flash
Cheers,
Jack

In that case, I would recommend the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5 zoom. A very, very useful range (24mm to 105mm equivalent) and a good performer as well.
I have the Sigma 10-20 zoom as well, but I must admit, it is not used anything like as much. On the K10D, with matrix metering, it seems to regularly under expose by 0.8 EV. Easy to correct on CS3 Bridge raw, but a bit of a puzzle as to why, unless it is that a lot more sky is included in the angle of view.

Hi Jack
Have you seen todays AP homepage - Pentax have just announced a 17-70 f4 zoom - its surely just what you need. Dont Pentax tell you about these things in advance?
I haven't stopped cursing yet having recently bought a Sigma 18-50 f2.8. I would gladly have traded the extra stop for the extra 20mm focal length. Having said that I am well pleased with the quality of results from the Sigma - it produces beautiful gradation and is as sharp as you could wish for.
Cheers

Hi David,
Honestly, the two(2) lenses I am, seriously, considering are either the:
DA 18-250 -- as a (much) lighter weigh walk around lens but I know I would come across so many situations where I would miss the f/2.8 of my 80-200 (including many situations using my flash
DA 50-135 -- (compared to my 80-200) it's, smaller, lighter, weatherproofed, will be faster (and probably more consistent) focussing BUT it will lack the longer focal length and, of course, old killer .... da cost (£550 equivalent). Unless, of course, I can find a Pentaxius Localus to pay me (the equivalent of) £250-300
So the struggle continues
Cheers,
Jack

Did you look at the Sigma 17-70 Ron? I've got one for my Canons and I reckon it's a cracking lens.

The new Pentax 17-70 looks good but slower and more expensive. It is weatherproofed, so that could be very useful on the k10D. But is the extra cost worth it when one can use a polythese bag over the lens??
