I've got a Quantaray 70-300mm (with macro) and it's only fair, at best, especially at full extension.
I'd like something sharper, especially at the 300mm range...suggestions?

SMC Pentax-FAJ 75-300mm. This lens gives very pleasing results, not as sharp as a prime but probably much better than the lens you have and better than the Sigma and tamron alternatives. Not too expensive either.
The SMC Pentax-DA 50-200mm (or Samsung equivalent) is better again.

Thank you for the information. Help me to understand Pentax's lens naming system...
I presume DA stands for Digital Autofocus, and FA for Film Autofocus?

Then there's DFA (suitable for digital but full frame for 35mm film), DA*, FA*, Ltd, M, A (etc).
Depending on your budget, I have heard ood things about the new Pentax DA 55-300. I'm not sure if there's a Samsumg/Schneider version or not, but it's around £230.
Edit - ood = good.

DA lenses have an image circle suitable for digital, FA lenses cover film format, but both can be used on the digital cameras.

Hi A_D,
Have you considered the DA 55-300 (?) or if you want to go the single lens range how about the DA 18-250 ??
Cheers,
Jack
